What is the Whiteface Region known for?
Whiteface Mountain, the namesake of the region, offers outstanding skiing and snowboarding in the cold months, and is the backdrop of many activities in the area year-round. Hiking is also a staple of outdoor recreation. The Adirondacks boast over 2,000 miles of designated hiking trails, and the Whiteface Region offers immediate access to many of them. For all-season scenic walks, check out the Flume Trail System in Wilmington. It includes approximately 8 miles of trails for four-season recreational activities including mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter.
Fly fishermen and women will be thrilled with some of the best fly fishing waters in the east. Fly fishing in the Ausable River is world-renowned, and our local fishing guides have the information you need to find fishing holes filled with brook trout. When winter overtakes the water, discover ice fishing in nearby waters!
The Whiteface Region is often called the "Mountain Bike capital of the Adirondacks," and it lives up to the name! The town of Wilmington even boasts a full-on Mountain Bike Park. Here, you can use the pump track, dirt jumps, and a skills park, all of which are both a fun way to get outside, and a chance to refine your mountain bike prowess in preparation for the areas numerous mountain bike trails. Looking for unique terrain but don't want to venture into mountain biking territory? Enjoy a network of gravel cycling routes throughout the region, testing your tact as a rider and taking you through stunning scenery.
